Using fake police identity, man harasses girls

Police have identified him as Jatothu Mahesh, resident of Kotimamidi thanda of Khanapur mandal

WARANGAL: Task force officials on Tuesday arrested a 20-year-old disabled youth, who had been harassing girls after creating a fake identity on social media platforms in the name of an assistant sub-inspector of police.

Police have identified him as Jatothu Mahesh, resident of Kotimamidi thanda of Khanapur mandal. He had created fake accounts on WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram in the name and photo of ASI Srinivas of Two Town police station in Karimnagar. In reality, the ASI had passed away.

However, Mahesh used Srinivas’ identity to chat with girls and entice them. He started threatening girls when they stopped chatting with him because of his online behaviour. Unable to bear his harassment, one of the girls approached Warangal police and lodged a complaint.

Police traced the phone number to the house of Mahesh in Khanapur mandal. They realised it was the same person who had previously made fake calls to Dial 100. Police had then zeroed in on him. Finding him disabled, they counselled and let him off.

This time, however, they have taken Mahesh into custody and sent him for remand.
