Hyderabad: Engineering dropout ‘burglar’ held with Rs 22 lakh, gold
Hyderabad: An engineering dropout who took to burgling houses was arrested by the East Task Force who police who seized gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 22 lakh from him.
Police said the accused, Nenavath Vinod Kumar, had been jailed under the Preventive Detention Act twice in 2015 and 2017. Though previous offenders are monitored, Vinod, a native of Amangal mandal and resident of Balapur in Ranga Reddy district, went off the radar after his release in September last year.
Hyderabad police commissioner Anjani Kumar said Vinod had burgled 14 houses after his release in the Hyderabad and Rachakonda police commissionerates. Vinod sold some ornaments to Madan Kumar, owner of Neha Jewellers in Vadodara, Gujarat.
He said Vinod had discontinued his BTech from AVN Engineering College, Ibrahimpatnam, and took to burglary.
Task Force additional DCP S. Chaitanya Kumar said Vinod was arrested on a tip-off. A total of 53.4 tolas of gold ornaments, one kg of silver ornaments worth `22 lakh was recovered from him.
