Villagers robbed Rukmani's gold, money, claim kin
Chennai: Relatives of a 65-year-old Rukmani lynched to death on Thursday alleged that villagers had robbed her of gold and money. Fifty sovereigns of gold, Indian rupees and Malaysian ringgit from the woman are missing.
Despite the victims pleading in Tamil pleading that they were innocent, villagers attacked them inhumanely and we strongly suspect that the attackers wanted to loot, a relative told reporters after receiving the body of Rukmani.
According to police, postmortem was done and the body was handed over to her son Gobinath from Chennai.
District SP Ponni instructed all police stations to reach out to villagers insisting not to attack or assault any north Indian stranger or any suspicious person in their vicinity.
The police have been advised to reach out to the public and those disrupting public peace will be taken to task, police said.
Meanwhile Gobinath after receiving his mother’s body told police that her mother’s money and gold have been looted.
He also lodged a complaint with the police seeking action and a detailed investigation in the murder of his mother.
“I have lost my mother and my relatives have been beaten up for no mistake. Is this a civilized society”, Gobinath wept in front of TV cameras unable to fight the tears.
Loudspeakers fitted in autos made rounds in Tiruvannamalai and Kancheepuram districts insisting public not to beat or assault any suspects.
