Three injured as CPM, IUML clash in Tirur

Police has registered cases in connection with the incidents.

MALAPPURAM: Political clashes have once again reared its ugly head in the coastal region of the district. The fresh violences have left three CPM workers severely injured at Paravanna and Koottayi near Tirur. The region remained tense as the attack which broke out at Paravanna on Wednesday night continued on Thursday. CPM worker Kuriyante Purakkal Ismail, 39, was attacked by an unknown gang at Arayankadap-puram in Koottayi on Thursday morning.

It was around 9 pm on Wednesday, that CPM workers Unniyappante Purakkal Soufeer, 25, and Puliyankod Afsar, 22, were hacked allegedly by a gang of IUML activists. The injured are undergoing treatment at Kozhi-kode Medical College Hospital. Police said that though the reason behind the attack is yet to be ascertained it was a continuation of recurring political clashes in the region.

Police has registered cases in connection with the incidents. The probe to identify the assailants is on, said Tirur DySP V.A. Ullas. The police has deployed adequate forces at key areas to thwart the escalation of the situation. The fresh violence has marred the peace in the region which has witnessed several political clashes over the years.
