Hyderabad: Woman cheats men on Facebook, held
Hyderabad: The Cyber Crime Cell of the Central Crime Station has arrested a woman Vinamrata Raman who had allegedly cheated several gullible persons on the pretext of developing friendship with them on Facebook. The accused had previously worked in hotels at Goa and Pune. She is now is working at a restaurant in Jubilee Hills.
Vinamrata befriended men on FB, have long chats and as or demand money from them only to cheat them later. However, she was arrested after one of her victims Shubham Gupta lodged a complaint with the police.
The police said, “In the complaint the victim (Mr Gupta) said that the accused took Rs 10,000 from him through IMPS for booking hotel room at Goa. He had contacted her having noticed on her FB profile that she was working in Goa as a travel agent. He told her to get the room booked for three days at the rate of '7,000 per day. There was a clause that he had to pay Rs 10,000 in advance.”
Mr Gupta said he trusted her and deposited Rs 10,000 in her account, as she said that once he pays the advance the room will be booked and a confirmation receipt will be sent to his email address. He also said that once the money was deposited, Vinamrata’s phone was switched off and her FB profile was also deactivated, the police said.
“Upon receiving a complaint we traced her to Jubilee Hills and arrested her,” said CCS inspector G. Shankar Raju.
Police said she had also cheated other men and are carrying out a thorough investigation.
