Hyderabad: Loan shark petrol bombs man, child
Hyderabad: A loan shark threw a petrol bomb on an elderly man and his grandson, a 10-year-old boy, while they were sleeping outside their residence in Banjara Nagar in Borabanda on Tuesday night.
R. Yadagiri sustained minor injuries on his hands and legs while the boy, R. Arun, a Class V student, received 75 per cent burns. According to the police, Mr Yadagiri had taken a loan of Rs 8 lakh from the suspect, Shyam, and was not able to return it by the deadline, which led to the attack.
A relative said, “While we were sleeping inside, the man attacked the duo who were sleeping outside by throwing a flaming petrol bottle at them. The attacker locked the doors from the outside, preventing us from coming out to rescue them.”
A family member added, “The attacker had not anticipated that there would be a child sleeping with my brother.” The two were taken to Gandhi Hospital for treatment, after which the family lodged a complaint against Shyam.
SR Nagar Police booked a case under Section 436 (mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to destroy house) and 307 (attempt to murder) of IPC and took Shyam into custody.
