Chennai: Mom held for torturing kid on train

The woman, Priya was travelling with her child in the unreserved compartment of the Allepey Express headed for Chennai on Monday night.

Coimbatore: A 28-year-old woman who thrashed and tortured her three year old girl child in an express train on Tuesday was handed over to the Coimbatore Railway police.

The woman, Priya was travelling with her child in the unreserved compartment of the Allepey Express headed for Chennai on Monday night. Suddenly, Priya started beating the child, which started crying.

Co-passengers pleaded with the woman not to harm the little child. Ignoring them, the women continued to hit the child repeatedly. Unable to bear the sight of the child being thrashed which continued for a long time, more than 10 passengers surrounded the lady and warned her.

As the woman stubbornly refused to stop hitting the child, a few passengers rang up the railway helpline, and the message was passed on to Coimbatore railway police.

When the train reached Coimbatore junction on Tuesday morning, railway police who were waiting in the station got into the u-reserved compartment and picked up the woman

During interrogation, the woman revealed that she was wife of Senthil an auto driver in Trissur district and that the 3 year old girl, Dharani was her child.
She had left her home after a quarrel with her husband. As she was in a state of depression, she had hit her child, she told the cops. Priya was taken to a home for the destitutes in Coimbatore, said the railway police official.
