Bengaluru: Burglar, gold firm manager arrested for buying stolen gold
BENGALURU: The Kodigehalli police have arrested a notorious burglar and a manager of Attica Gold Company, for allegedly buying stolen gold, and booty worth Rs 41 lakh was recovered from the accused.
The accused have been identified as Prakash alias Junglee, 28, a resident of Gayatrinagar, and Venkat, 31, a resident of Mallatthalli and a manager with Attica Gold Company’s Indiranagar branch.
According to the police, Prakash had earlier committed theft of TV sets from a showroom in Ramanagar and was arrested by the Ramanagar police in 2014. He was released on bail a month after his arrest. Later, he started a bakery and incurred losses. Again he took to crime and started committing burglaries.
“He used to roam around in residential areas during day time and identified locked houses. During night he used to return to these houses and commit theft. Recently, he had committed burglary in a house in Bhadrappa Layout in Kodigehalli police station limits. The police launched a probe into the matter and based on credible information, he was arrested,” the police said.
With his arrest, the police have solved nine house theft cases (Kodigehalli - 2, K R Puram - 5, Yelahanka - 1, and Ramamurthynagar - 1). “During interrogation, he confessed that he was selling the stolen gold jewels to Attica Gold Company. Thus, Venkat was also arrested for buying the gold knowing that it was a stolen property,” the police said.
Prakash had allegedly lost huge money by betting in horse race. He had also taken a Maruti Suzuki Ciaz car on lease and purchased a bike from the ill-gotten money. The police have recovered 1.020 kg of gold jewellery, 357 grams of silver articles, a car and a bike, total worth Rs 41 lakh, from the accused.
