Kurnool: Parents and their married daughter attempted suicide by falling under an express train at Adoni railway station at 3:46 a.m. on Tuesday.
According to railway police, Padmanabham and Selvi of Vellore district in Tamil Nadu had two daughters. The elder daughter died during the Covid pandemic. They had got their second daughter Jeevitha married to Mahesh of Palamaneru in Chittoor district after she completed her MBA.
Mahesh started torturing Jeevitha both mentally physically and mentally right from the time of the marriage. They have a 12-year-old daughter. Jeevitha had been reaching out to her parents frequently. The family tried various ways to bring peace between the couple but failed. Finally, Padmanabham, Selvi and Jeevitha together decided to commit suicide.
They reached Bengaluru from their village on Monday to commit suicide by falling under a train but could not do so. They left Bangalore by Udyan Express, which reached Adoni at 3:46 am on Tuesday.
Instead of getting off on the platform number four, they got down on the tracks side to commit suicide by coming under the same train. Passengers travelling in the train noticed this and screamed for help.
Qadri, a home guard on duty, reached the spot even as the train started and pulled away Selvi and her daughter. But Padmanabham's left arm got amputated.
Padmanabham has been rushed to the Government General Hospital in Kurnool for better treatment.
Railway sub-inspector Ramaswamy said they have registered a case and are investigating.
