Gold worth Rs 4.21 cr seized at Srikakulam railway station

Visakhapatnam: Acting on specific intelligence, the officers of DRI Visakhapatnam intercepted a person who arrived at Srikakulam Railway Station from Kolkata by Train No.12839 (Howrah-Chennai Mail) on Wednesday along with the recipient who came to the railway platform and received the passenger at the railway station.

The DRI sleuths checked the trolley bag of the passenger and found eight bars of smuggled gold weighing 7.396 Kgs (99.9 purity 24 Carat) valued at Rs. 4.21 crore in the market. The gold was found in the inner zip of the bag. It was revealed that gold was smuggled from Bangladesh, melted and recast into bars in Kolkata.

The two persons were arrested and remanded to judicial custody. Further investigation is in progress, the DRI officials said in a release issued on Saturday.
