Two more arrests in Walayar girls' suicide
Palakkad: The police investigating suicide by siblings at Attapallam near Walayar has registered the arrest of two more persons in the case on Monday. Police said ‘Kutti’ Madhu, arrested on Friday, was the cousin of the two siblings. The siblings committed suicide within a span of 52 days. The other person arrested is Pradeep of Cherthala in Alappuzha. He was living near the house of the siblings at Attapallam. He had married a woman in the locality and settled there.
“All the four persons arrested in the case had subjected the minor girls to severe sexual torture when their father and mother were away at work, especially on school holidays,” H- Nagar circle inspector Premanadakrihsnan who is a part of the investigation team told this newspaper. The police has not yet got enough clues on whether the men murdered the siblings. At present, their assessment is that the girls committed suicide as they could not withstand the sexual abuse.
VS’s visit
On Friday morning, Administrative Reforms Commission Chairman V.S. Achuthanadan visited the house of the victims and came down heavily on the police for their lapses in investigation in the first suicide in January. “The police has helped the culprits to escape and in all such similar cases, they have tried to reap benefits without taking the culprits to task,” said V.S., who is also the local MLA. BJP leader V Muraleedharan also visited the house of the victims on Friday.
