Two arrested for theft from ATMs in Hyderabad

Based on a complaint from Sisco manager, the police registered a cheating case against the duo.

Hyderabad: Medipally police arrested two ATM custodians who diverted cash meant for refilling in ATMs. Police said the duo used the money for personal needs and refilled ATMs depending on alerts about audits. The suspects are Asam Venu Gopal and B. Rakesh.

Police said the duo were working as custodians for Sisco Cash Logistics Services. Sisco is managing the cash replenishment of 12 ATMs of the Bank of India located in Sultan Bazaar, Koti, Malakpet, Parvath-apur, Nacharam, Malkajgiri, Neredmet, Karkhana, RK Puram, Sainikpuri, ECIL and Balajinagar and eight ATMs of Karur Vysya Bank located at Boduppal and AS Rao Nagar, Anand Bagh, Yadavanagar, Kamla-nagar and Alwal.

The duo started working as custodians six months ago. As they were handling cash replenishments they were given secret passwords by the cash refilling agency.

Using the passwords given to them they diverted funds for their personal use. Whenever they received information about audits at an ATM, they made up the deficit.

During a recent audit, the management found mismatch in funds at the Bank of India ATM at Parvathapur and after an inquiry they found the duo had diverted the funds.

Based on a complaint from Sisco manager, the police registered a cheating case against the duo. They were arrested and remanded. The police recovered Rs 82,000 from them.
