Hyderabad: Mother's poisoned milk kills 6-year-old
Hyderabad: A six-year-old girl died and her younger brother is critical after consuming poisoned badam milk left over by their mother who attempted suicide. The woman, identified as K. Vijaya Lakshmi, 26, wife of a private employee K. Anjaiah, was living with their two kids Yashaswini, 6, and Yashwanth Kumar, 4, in Vinayaknagar, Mailardevpally.
The mother had been suffering from unbearable stomach pain for three months in spite of medication. Unable to endure the pain, “on Tuesday, Lakshmi purchased a rat killing poison and a bottle of Badam flavoured milk and mixed the poison with the milk. She drank a little and kept the bottle in the living room. As soon as their mother went into the kitchen, the kids drank the left over,” said Mailardevpally inspector P Jagadeeshwar.
Lakshmi noticed that and called her husband, who in turn called his cousin and requested him to take them to hospital. “The girl’s health kept deteriorating and was shifted to Niloufer hospital on Thursday. The mother was discharged from the hospital on Friday morning. In the afternoon, doctors declared that the daughter has died,” said the inspector.
Based on a complaint lodged by Anjaiah, a case has been booked against Lakshmi under section 304 (II) and 308 of IPC. The boy is still undergoing treatment and stated to be critical, said inspector Jagadeeshwar.
