KARIMNAGAR: Two tractor drivers were arrested for allegedly impregnating two minor girls in the name of love at Ganneruvaram village in Bejjenki mandal on Thursday.
Karimnagar DSP J. Rama Rao said the accused, Ponnala Srikanath and Irukurthi Kiran, are natives of Ganneruvaram. They drive tractors. The girls too live in the same village. They were living alone in their houses as their parents had migrated to Jharkhand in search of a livelihood.
Srikanth and Kiran befriended the illiterate girls, both aged below 17 years, saying they love them. For the last six months, they have been having sexual intercourse with the girls promising that they would marry them.
When the girls told the drivers that they were pregnant, the duo gave some some pills saying it would help the babies grow strong. However, after consuming the pills, both the girls had abortion.
Soon the girls informed their parents that they were deceived by the drivers.
The parents of both the girls returned to the village a few days ago and told about the issue to the elders of their community who held a meeting and decided to give some compensation.
Meanwhile, some villagers passed on info to the cops who persuaded the girls to lodge a complaint.
