Hyderabad: Gang held for cloning stolen mobile phones

The gang used to steal costly phones from stores and sell them after changing IMEI numbers, police said.

Hyderabad: The police busted a mobile phone theft racket on Thursday and arrested a six-member gang, including a student and three people selling mobile phones.

The gang used to steal costly phones from stores and sell them after changing IMEI numbers, police said. The arrested men are Shaik Ahmed, Fayazullah Khan, Md Aiyaz, Syed Naseer-uddin, Noman Khan and Md Ilyas.

Hyderabad JPC (CCS) T. Prabhaker said that Ahmed, an autorickshaw driver and Fayaz, a garment trader, survey phone showrooms at day and burgle them at night.

Later, the goods are handed over to Ahmed for selling and he used to sell them at low prices to Aiyaz and Naseeruddin who own stores.

They handed over the mobiles to Noman and Ilyaz for changing IMEI numbers.
After that, Aiyaz and Naseeruddin used to sell the mobiles at high prices. The police seized 106 phones, two LED TVs, two laptops, three cameras, one computer and a CPU from them.
