5 killed in road mishaps in Vizag

VISAKHAPATNAM: Five persons, including three youngsters, were killed in two separate road accidents that took place in the intervening night of Thursday and Friday in Visakhapatnam and Anakapalle districts.

In the first incident, three youngsters died on the spot after their Pulsar bike was suspected to be hit by a heavy vehicle on the NH-16 stretch near Venkojipalem under the MVP Colony police station in Vizag city in the wee hours of Friday. Police believe they might have skidded off the road due to their high speed.

The deceased were identified as P Sai, I Durga Prasad, and R Gopi, all below the age of 25 years. The police said that Sai and Gopi were residents of the Yendada locality in Vizag city, and Durga Prasad was a native of Srikakulam.

The incident occurred as the trio on a bike was riding from Yendada to Maddilapalem. The police said that they didn’t find any major damages to the bike, and they suspect that the bike’s handle came into contact with a heavy vehicle, which could lead to the bike skidding due to the over-speeding.

The police are examining the CCTV footage at some locations to establish the exact cause of the fatal accident. There was a caption written on the bike: ``Enjoy Every Moment Because Death is Unexpected." The bodies were shifted for the post-mortem.

In the second incident, two people, a lorry driver and his assistant, were killed after their cotton-laden vehicle hit a cement-laden lorry near Askpalli Junction under Sabbavaram police station limits in Anakapalle district. The accident led to a traffic jam at the spot. The police said that the deceased hailed from West Bengal.
