Telangana: Patient's relative sue Sunshine Hospital for negligence

The case has been scheduled for hearing on January 23.

Hyderabad: A case has been filed against Sunshine Hospital, Secunderabad, for medical negligence by Nagaraj Gupta, a resident of Gowlipura. The case has been scheduled for hearing on January 23. The complainant alleged that his father, 71-year-old T. Naga-bhusham who passed away on June 3, suffered at the hands of the doctor. However, the hospital authorities denied the allegations.

Nagaraj said, “My father was admitted to the hospital in April due to severe knee pain. On April 10, his left leg was operated and on April 14, his right leg was operated. On April 15, when he was brought back to the ward, he was drowsy due to anesthesia. When we asked doctors, they told us that it is normal for a few patients to have effects of anesthesia.”

He further said that he was asked to feed solid food to his father on the same day by the doctor. “However, after feeding him, he started vomiting. When my mother notified the nurse, she said that the food ente-red his lungs.” Nagaraj was severely criticised for feeding a patient in a drowsy state. He said, “I just did what the doctor told me to. Later, he was shifted to the MICU where he was under treatment for 55 days but died on June 3.”An official from the hospital said, “It is not the doctor’s fault. The patient was old and had undergone two operations which caused immense strain on his body. He died due to a cardiac arrest.”
