Hyderabad: Couple drugged on train, looted
Hyderabad: A couple who was coming to meet their daughter and son-in-law in the city, was drugged and looted midway on Falaknuma Express by an unknown man on Saturday. The couple, identified as Vajrapu Sree Ram Murthy, 55, and his wife, Sunitha, 50, were travelling from Berhampur to Secunderabad on Friday in B3 coach of Falaknuma Express and were given coffee laced with sedatives, said railway police officials.
“The couple were coming to meet their son in law, Kusumanchi Venkata Purna Pani, 35, an investment banker from Nizampet, and his wife Kavitha. On Friday, the man, who told them that he was also going to Secunderabad, offered them tea first, which they declined. Later, in the night, he brought them coffee, which was laced with sedatives and drugged them,” said the DSP of Railway, Rajendra Prasad.
“As soon as they passed out, he fled with Rs 27,000 cash and gold ornaments weighing around 5 tolas. The couple did not regain consciousness even after the train reached Secunderabad Junction on Saturday evening,” added the DSP. The locals had informed the Railway Police who shifted them to Gandhi Hospital for treatment and recovered the contact number of their son- in-law, Venkata Purna Pani. Based on a complaint filed by Mr Pani, a case was booked and investigation was started.
