Thomas Chandy for gag on media

The petition also pleaded to prevent media from reporting the case.

Kochi: Transport minister Thomas Chandy, facing allegations of encroachment of revenue land and reclamation of backwaters, on Thursday filed a fresh petition in the Kerala High Court seeking to annul the report submitted by Alappuzha district collector in the matter. The petition also pleaded to prevent media from reporting the case. The petition is likely to come before the consideration of the court on Friday.

Mr Chandy has said that the Lake Palace Resort, at the centre of the controversy, belongs to a company and the collector has prepared the report without hearing its version. Mr Chandy has also pointed out that a concerted effort was underway to personally defame him in the case.

Terming the action of the collector as “against the principle of natural justice”, Mr Chandy pleaded for the annulment of the report. Mr Chandy has approached the court with a fresh petition even as pressure is mounting on him and the ruling left Democratic Front to take a decision on his continuation as a minister in the state cabinet.
