Bengaluru: Newly-married woman found dead

Harshita's parents have lodged a police complaint accusing Chetan of harassing her for dowry.

Bengaluru: A 24-year-old newly married woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging from the ceiling at her residence in Ittamadu in Chennammanakere Achukattu police station limits on Thursday morning. However, her parents have alleged foul play.

The deceased has been identified as Harshitha, a native of Maddur taluk in Mandya district. She got married to Chetan (30) on November 1 and was staying with him and her in-laws in Ittamadu. According to the police, Chetan and his family members claimed everything was fine between the two until Thursday morning.

Chetan, an employee with a private firm, told police that they slept at around 1 am on Thursday after having a casual chat. Harshita even woke him up at 7.30 am after which he went to a nearby shop to have tea. Upon returning, he found her hanging from the ceiling and he he informed his parents and the police.

However, Harshita’s parents have lodged a complaint at the Chennammanakere Achukattu police station accusing Chetan of harassing her for dowry.

The police who have registered the case detained Chetan and have shifted Harshita’s body to a hospital for post-mortem. Police said prima facie there were no injury marks on Harshita’s body.
