Hyderabad Police Seize Unaccounted Cash and Jewellery from Vehicles

Hyderabad: With the election code coming into force, police across the state, particularly in Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda commissionerates, started cracking down on the movement of unaccounted cash, liquor and also gold and silver articles.

During the vehicle checks, a huge quantity of unaccounted cash was seized.

The police seized 87 pressure cookers belonging to Raghunath Yadav, a Congress aspirant from Serilingampally constituency in the city, from a house at Gachibowli, and arrested his two associates.

ACP Madhapur P Srinivas said that they raided a house where 83 pressure cookers were kept ready for distribution by the Congress aspirant Raghunath Yadav, and seized them. “We are also probing if they have already distributed them to any voters,” he said.

At Chandanagar, the police seized gold jewellery weighing 5.6 kg from gold retailers transporting them to jewellery stores.

At Film Nagar, police seized Rs 30 lakh unaccounted cash from a person transporting it in a car.

Gold and silver articles, worth Rs 7.50 crore were seized by the city police at Abids during vehicle checks. Similarly, Rs 15 lakh was seized from a trader at Begum Bazar and Rs 9.30 lakh was seized at Chaderghat.

Further, around Rs 6.50 lakh of unaccounted cash was seized at Vanasthalipuram and Rs 30 lakh was seized at Chaitanyapuri, Rs 11 lakh cash was seized at a toll plaza in Shadnagar. A huge amount of unaccounted cash was also seized at Shankarpally police station limits on the city outskirts.

The seized amount will be handed over to the income-tax department for further probe. People are requested to carry supporting documents while carrying huge amounts of jewellery during this election code, police officials said.
