Bengaluru: The Marathahalli police have arrested a 52-year-old man for allegedly sexually abusing a three-year-old girl in Devarabeesanahalli on Monday.
The accused has been identified as Babu alias Chandrababu, a native of Vellore in Tamil Nadu and works as a welder in Devarabeesanahalli. The police said that he had left his family back in his hometown three years ago and was staying in a rented house near the victim's house.
According to the police, the incident took place around 1.30 pm while the victim was playing in front of her house. Babu who was aware that her parents had gone for work, came near her house. He lured her by offering chocolates, took her to his room and allegedly abused her.
The incident came to light when her mother returned from work and saw her daughter carrying her slippers and was walking out of Babu's room with her underpants pulled downwards.
When she rushed to Babu's room she saw that he was clad in underwear.
She immediately raised an alarm and the locals gathered, who informed the police control room. The Marathahalli police rushed to the spot and nabbed the culprit.
The victim was taken to a private hospital where the doctors confirmed sexual abuse. As the examinations were to be done at a government hospital, the police once again took the victim and the accused in separate vehicles to the Bowring Hospital for medical examination.
Babu was booked under Sections 7 and 8 of the POCSO Act, produced before a magistrate, who remanded him to judicial custody.
