Bengaluru: Pepper sprays are often seen as weapons that help women fight eve-teasers and other miscreants, but this time it was used by a bike borne robber to his advantage.
A woman was robbed of her gold chain by an unidentified bike-borne robber after he used pepper spray on her in Madeshnagar in Byadarahalli police station limits on Saturday morning.
The incident happened around 6 am, when the victim, Nirmala, was walking down the lane to throw garbage at a bin near her house. As she reached near the bin, a bike-borne robber approached her and sprayed pepper on her face and snatched the gold chain, weighing 40 gm, she was wearing.
Nirmala shouted for help, but by the time passersby could reach her, the robber had fled. She has filed a complaint with police who are searching for the accused.
The police have obtained CCTV footage from the cameras installed nearby the spot and examining it.
Byadarahalli police have registered a case and begun investigation.
