Hyderabad: A 25-year-old maid who wanted to raise money for her marriage brutally killed her employer’s neighbour. Vasundhara Laxmi stabbed Umadevi, when she resisted Laxmi's robbery attempt.
Police said M. Umadevi, 65, was staying in Nallagandla village along with her son Srinivas and daughter-in-law Sunitha, who are software professionals. Umadevi was alone at home, after her son and wife left for work.
Laxmi, who was working in a nearby house, planned to steal gold jewellery from Srinivas’s residence. Around 2 pm she entered Srinivas’s house, latched the door from inside and entered the bedroom where Umadevi was sleeping. Laxmi took a gold chain and five gold bangles.
“Umadevi saw her and tried to raise an alarm. Laxmi ran into the kitchen, took a knife and stabbed Umadevi,” inspector N. Tirupathi Rao said. Hearing Umadevi’s cries neighbours came. Laxmi, then stabbed herself. She was rushed to hospital and her condition is critical. Police registered a murder case.
