Army vehicles violate rules in Hyderabad

An eyewitness to one of the incidents said the Army vehicle's driver even argued with the traffic cop who stopped him.

Hyderabad: Three incidents of traffic violations involving Army drivers surfaced recently. An Army bus hit a Sainikpuri resident at the police lines in Begumpet while another was stopped for dangerous driving at Alwal. Another Army bus was seen driving along a road in the wrong direction.

An eyewitness to one of the incidents said the Army vehicle’s driver even argued with the traffic cop who stopped him. “On September 7, at around 2.30 pm, near the HDFC Bank in Lothkunta, I saw the bus carrying children taking a wrong turn.

A traffic cop immediately stopped the bus and tried to take the driver’s photo. But the driver started arguing with the cop and when I asked him why he was endangering children he asked who I was. This bus blocked traffic for 15 to 20 minutes,” said Jitendra Kumar, of Bollarum.

The cop, M. Venkateshwarlu, said, “They didn’t allow me to fine them.” On August 26, a man was hit and killed by an Army truck at Langar Houz. In 2015, a hit and run case was registered after a man was hit by an Army official’s vehicle on the Military Hospital road, Trimulgherry. The case has been closed as the accused remains untraceable.
