Police crack theft case at TTD guesthouse, recover Rs 2.14 lakh

Tirupati: Tirumala crime police made a breakthrough in the property theft case, which was reported at Sannidhanam guesthouse of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) at Tirumala.

The police on Friday arrested a thief in connection with this case and also recovered property worth Rs 2.14 lakh including cash and gold.

It may be recalled that on July 22, some unidentified thieves have broke open room no. 47 at Sannidhanam guesthouse in Tirumala and decamped with cash and gold worth `2.40 lakh, belonging to devotees from Vijayawada.

Disclosing the details to media persons, assistant superintendent of police (crimes) Venkatesh Naik said, based on a complaint lodged by G. Pullaiah of Vijayawada we have registered a case in connection with the Sannidhanam guesthouse theft case, reported on July 22.

After receiving the complaint, police teams swung into action and laid a hunt for the accused. Acting on tip-off, we have taken the thief into custody when he tried to flee after seeing the movement of the police near group theatres junction in Tirupati on Thursday.

On questioning, the burglar confessed to have stolen cash and gold from Sannidhanam guesthouse, Mr Naik said.

Meanwhile, the accused, identified as M. Prasad Reddy, 48, of East Godavari district was also a wanted accused in connection with four theft cases that are reported at Tirumala earlier. The accused was also jailed earlier in connection with several theft cases.
