The accused Banoth Devika, 30 years, was allegedly into a relationship with one Totha Benarjee, 31, a housekeeping supervisor in a private company. “The duo planned to get married and live together. So, they decided to kill Jagan Naik alias Jaggu, husband of Devika, a few weeks ago. The duo felt that they could live happily after killing the man,” DCP (West) A.R. Srinivas said.
On Monday night, Benarjee, with the help of Devika, strangulated and killed Jagan Naik after spraying pesticide and sprinkling chili powder on his face.
The house owners woke up to the loud noise and went upstairs. “In her bid to escaped from the case, Devika concocted a story saying that her husband came home in an inebriate state, beat her up. In order to save herself, she kicked him on his genitals and later throttled his neck resulting in his death,” the DCP said.
