UoH professor gets defaming mails
Hyderabad: A female professor of the University of Hyderabad (UoH) lodged a complaint against a former UoH student with the Gachibowli police alleging insult to her modesty by his act of sending emails to her, and also her colleagues, friends and even police officials, making defaming statements about her character.
The woman, who works as a professor at the UoH complained to the police three days ago against G. Lakshmi Narayana Rao, a former student of the School of Physics at the varsity.
In her complaint to the police, the professor stated that Rao harassed her by sending emails to her varsity and personal email ids with the intent of outraging her modesty by maligning and defaming her nature.
Rao also reportedly copied the same emails to about 400 recipients, mostly university employees, her friends and also to some police officials.
He also made comments defaming her character and threatened to expose her by sharing more information.
According to the FIR, the accused in his emails mentioned about another male professor who was her colleague and stated “Do you really want me to tell the truth? I did, already, in an indirect way.
“If you are expecting the facts to be in a direct way and open, you will get in an unexpected way and at right time you never expected. Try with your best friends motivating in the bad direction.”(sic)
Fearing a threat to her physical and mental well-being, the woman requested the police to take action.
Based on her complaint, the police registered a case under sections 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and 509 (Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) against Rao.
Gachibowli sub-inspector G Suresh, who is investigating the case, said, “A case has been registered based on the female professor’s complaint on July 6. We are verifying the content of the emails and also tracking the origination of the email to nab the accused.”
However, the complainant did not mention about Former UoH student send malicious emails to defame a female UoH professor.
Police said that once they caught the accused and questioned him, more details would be unearthed.
