CPM worker, mother hacked in Kannur
KOZHIKODE: Cases have been registered against nearly 10 BJP-RSS workers on Tuesday after the murder attempt on a CPM worker in Cheruvanchery in Kannur on Monday night, the police said. However, the police did not reveal the names of the persons against whom th cases were registered. Poovadan Sajith (32), a CPM worker, and his mother Rajani (50), were attacked with iron rods by 30 people belonging to the BJP and RSS after they broke open the door of the house.
Mr Sajith has injuries all over his body and Ms Rajani's ribs were broken in the late night attack at their house. Both the injured have been admitted to Cooperative hospital, Thalassery and a surgery was carried out on Ms Rajani in the afternoon. Police said that it's a politically sensitive area and there were cases against Mr Sajith for attacking BJP workers.
Burning of vehicles and houses are a common scene here over issues between the CPM and BJP, said the police. Police is camping in the area, considering the sensitivity of the case, said Kuthuparamba CI K.P. Suresh Babu, who is the investigating officer in the case. Earlier on Tuesday, Thalassery DySP Prince Abraham visited the spot. The CPM observed a dawn-to-dusk hartal in the area on Tuesday. CPM Kannur district secretary P. Jayarajan, Kuthuparamba area secretary K. Dhananjayan and block panchayat president A. Asokan visited the house and the victims at the hospital.
