Facebook romeo thief' held in Hyderabad

When he visits their houses he used to divert their attention and flee with gold and expensive gadgets.

Hyderabad: A ‘Romeo thief’, who stole from houses in Narayanguda, SR Nagar and Punjagutta, landed in police custody on Saturday. Abburi Somaiah, used to befriend women on Facebook.

When he visits their houses he used to divert their attention and flee with gold and expensive gadgets. He also used to pretend to be a realtor and rent rooms in posh colonies to target his house owners’ property. He is involved in 41 cases. Police seized 13 laptops, 14 cellphones, an Apple IPad and 50 grams of gold worth Rs10 lakh from him.

"He introduces himself as a realtor from AP and promise jobs in his firm. He then says that he wants to be a tenant as he is new to the city. During his stay in the houses of his victims he steals gold, laptops, mobile phones and other gadgets," said west zone DCP A. Venkateswar Rao.

"He also used to chat with women on Facebook after sending them friend requests. With his false charm he used to get their phone numbers. He used meet them in their house or at hotels. When he gets a chance he would flee with gold and valuables," he added.

Police seized 13 laptops, 14 cellphones, an Apple IPad and 50 grams gold worth Rs 10 lakh from him. Somaiah hails from the Tanguturu Mandal of Prakasam district. "He mostly spents time travelling for escaping the police. He stays in lodges for not more than two or three days," the DCP said.
