Bengaluru: Facebook threats against Sri Sri Ravishankar

Nikilesh Shenoy, the administrator of the centre, has filed a complaint with the Kaggalipura police on June 1 in this regard.

Bengaluru: The founder of the Art of Living International Centre, Sri Sri Ravishankar, received a death threat from a person on Facebook and the Ramanagar police have launched a hunt to nab the person who posted it.

Nikilesh Shenoy, the administrator of the centre, has filed a complaint with the Kaggalipura police on June 1 in this regard. Police said the complaint stated that a person with Facebook profile ‘Ravindra’ has posted a derogatory message about Sri Sri Ravishankar and also mentioned that he should be shot dead. The message was posted on June 1 around 10 am.

“The complainant came to know about the message and approached the police the same day. Though it was a non cognisable offence, we approached the court and took its permission to register an FIR. After obtaining court permission, we registered an FIR on Tuesday,” an official said.

As per the preliminary probe, the police suspect the accused hails from Harohalli of Kanakapura taluk and has studied in Mysuru, as most of his friends are from Mysuru. “Whether the accused used his own identity or created a fake profile, we are gathering all details about the profile and he will be tracked down soon,” an official said. The police have booked the accused under section 507 (criminal intimidation by an anonymous communication) of the IPC and are further investigations are on.
