Youth beaten up for phone harrassment

The man, identified as Mohammed Imran, popular as ‘Caller Imran’ in several parts of the Old City, rubbed the law on the wrong side

HYDERABAD: A 28-year-old man, who is known for pestering elected representatives with repeated phone calls, demanding to solve umpteen public issues, was thrashed black and blue on Sunday night by the supporters of his targets.

The man, identified as Mohammed Imran, popular as ‘Caller Imran’ in several parts of the Old City, rubbed the law on the wrong side earlier by his pursuit of BJP MP Pragya Thakur.

According to S. Sudarshan, station house officer of Kalapathar police station, following the attack, Imran and his attackers were taken into custody, and then let off on station bail. Cases were booked under Sections 324 and 323 of the IPC (causing voluntary hurt) against both sides.

Imran was in Bilalnagar, Kalapathar on Sunday night for questioning some elected representatives who reportedly have not been resolving public issues.

Though Imran is a hero of sorts for some for posting his recorded phone conversations online, his phone calls have irked many, and several cases were filed against him in the past for harassment, and issuing threats.

Among those who filed cases are some city legislators, and elected representatives.

In the past, he was charged with insulting Madhya Pradesh MP Pragya Thakur, and Madhya Pradesh police visited his house in the Old City last February to serve a warrant on him, but Imran had refused to accept the same. He was subsequently warned not to pester the MP, after which the police officials from Madhya Pradesh left, the station house officer said.
