Bengaluru: A 56-year-old postwoman was robbed of her valuables by a fake policeman in HSR Layout police station limits on Monday evening.
The postwoman, Shashikala, was duped and robbed by the miscreant while she was walking in 29th Main Road in HSR Layout 1st Sector to deliver mail.
Police said the incident took place around 6 pm. The accused, who was dressed in a police uniform, stopped her and asked her to remove all her jewellery and keep them in her bag, saying that there was chaos on the next street. He reportedly tried to be as friendly as possible to gain her trust.
"When she refused to do so, she was forced to remove the ornaments. She kept them in a bag and continued walking. He allegedly snatched the bag and escaped. She yelled for help but the miscreant managed to escape with a gold chain weighing around 20 grams," the police added. HSR Layout police have registered a case.
