Hyderabad: Fight over hookah charges

Sarfaraj agreed to pay Rs 3,000 towards the hookah pots and Rs 600 to the boys who helped to serve the hookah to the guests.

Hyderabad: An argument over Rs 600 to be paid to a hookah provider led to a fight between two groups in the early hours of Monday in Chandrayanagutta. Police said that Sarfaraj who hired the hookah centre in connection with his relative's wedding had an argument with Sonu who supplied him hookah.

Later, Sonu and his friends intercepted Sarfaraj, kidnapped him in a vehicle and beat him up. Police said Sarfaraj, a resident of Falaknuma, ordered 70 hookah pots from Sonu, for use at his cousin's wedding held at the Manasa function hall in Champapet.

Sarfaraj agreed to pay Rs 3,000 towards the hookah pots and Rs 600 to the boys who helped to serve the hookah to the guests. After the function when Sarfaraj did not pay Rs 600 Sonu called him on the phone and both had a heated argument.

“When Sarfaraj gave his phone to his elder brother Mirza Shafiullah Baig to talk to Sonu they abused each other,” Chandrayanagutta additional inspector S. Raghavendra said.

Around 4.30 am on Monday, when Sarfaraj was standing outside the function hall to return home, Sonu and his friends Rahman, Abdullah and some others, came in an SUV, dragged Sarfaraj into it and took him to an isolated place and beat him up.

Meanwhile, Sarfaraj informed his relatives, who came to the spot and later they caught Rahman in Falaknuma and beat him up. Based on a complaint from Sarfaraj, a case of kidnap, wrongful restraint, criminal intimidation and inflicting injuries were registered against Sonu and his friends and a case was also registered against Sarfaraj, Mirza and others for similar charges.
