Hyderabad: Man's death after grilling to be probed

Forensic docs awaiting heart histopathology, FSL reports

Hyderabad: Senior north zone police officials have launched a probe into the death of Ramu, 29, who died in hospital a few hours after he was released by the police. Police registered a case of suspicious death after receiving a complaint from Ramu’s parents. Police said they are awaiting the post-mortem report to know the cause of death.“The case is being investigated by the SHO of Begumpet police station. We accepted the complaint of Ramu’s mother Renuka and registered an FIR,” said north zone DCP B. Sumathi.

“Assistant professors Dr Laxman and Dr Abhijeet Subedar of Gandhi Medical College’s department of forensic medicine conducted the autopsy. They have preserved the viscera for sending it to FSL. They have also preserved the heart to get its histopathology report for a final opinion regarding the cause of death. They would give us the report after they get the histopathology report as well as the report of the forensic lab,” the DCP said.

Ramu, who was briefly detained by Begumpet police for harassing a minor girl, collapsed and died a few hours after he was released. While his parents alleged that police torture killed him, police said that Ramu was suffering from diabetes and had not been eating for three days. Police said that Ramu was detained only for 45 minutes and they had let him go as the complainant, a relative, requested them not to book a criminal case against him.
