Bengaluru: Phone thief climbs pole, arrested, dies later
Bengaluru: A drunk man snatched a phone, climbed an advertisement pole after being chased by the public and died following his arrest. The cause of his death is yet to be ascertained.
The incident happened near Nagavara signal in Sampigehalli police station limits on Saturday evening. According to the complainant, Pravin, he was approached by Ramesh (the deceased), who asked for his mobile phone to make an urgent call. But when Pravin asked Ramesh to return the phone, he ran away with it.
When Pravin raised an alarm and alerted the people, they began chasing Ramesh. Fearing public wrath Ramesh climbed an advertisement pole. After the Sampigehalli police was informed they reached the spot and persuaded Ramesh to climb down. Police took Ramesh to the police station and registered an FIR.
He later complained of uneasiness and was taken to a hospital in Yelahanka at around 11.30 pm. After treatment, he was again brought to the police station and kept in a cell. After some time, he again showed symptoms of uneasiness, following which he was taken to a nearby clinic, where the doctors recommended an ECG, but as the facility wasn't available there, Ramesh was shifted to Regal Hospital where he was declared brought dead. The case has been handed over to CID.
