Hyderabad: police rescue child bride from man
Hyderabad: A child bride was rescued by the police and child rights activists at Meerpet on Saturday. A 22-year-old man was taking the 15-year-old girl to Jagathgirigutta to tie the knot when the police stopped him. He claimed the girl, who had finished her Class 10 examination last week, was in love with him.
The girl, a resident of Kamlanagar in Jillelaguda, was a friend of M. Sandeep, who allegedly convinced her to marry him. “They were proceeding to a temple to get married on Sunday. We informed the police and collector about the matter,” said a child rights activist.
The parents came to know about the incident only after she was rescued. They had not approved the man’s proposal to marry her. “The girl had also taken Rs 25,000 from her home when she came out to elope with Sandeep,” said an activist.
After counseling, police sent the girl to a special home in Nimboli Adda. Cops said they will book a case against the man if the parents are ready to file a complaint.
