Rowdy Lakshman's murder: Mahalakshmi Layout police fire at main accused to nab him

The police, who had formed a special team to solve the murder case, traced Raj to Gudibande in Chikkaballapura through his mobile phone location.

Bengaluru: Two days after 42-year-old notorious rowdy Lakshman Kumar was hacked to death in broad daylight near Iskcon Temple in Mahalakshmi Layout, the police on Saturday arrested the main accused after opening fire at him.

Raj alias Cat Raj (31), a notorious rowdy himself, allegedly attacked a police officer in a bid to escape. The Mahalakshmi Layout police inspector opened fire at his leg and neutralised him.

The police, who had formed a special team to solve the murder case, traced Raj to Gudibande in Chikkaballapura through his mobile phone location. During the interrogation, Raj confessed to killing Lakshman along with his gang and told the police that he had hidden the murder weapon and his blood-soaked clothes in Doddanna Industrial Area in Peenya Second Stage.

The police took Raj to the spot, but he had other plans. As soon as they reached the spot, Raj allegedly attacked a police officer forcing Mahalakshmi Layout Inspector Prashant M. to fire at his leg.

Raj has 28 cases of murder, attempt to murder, robbery, dacoity and theft in Bengaluru, Tumakuru, Mysuru and Mandya.

Rowdy Lakshman, who was involved in over 25 cases of murder and land grabbing, was killed in his SUV when he was returning home after meeting his friends. Raj and his gang intercepted Lakshman’s car near Isckon Temple and hacked him to death after breaking the window glasses of his car.

Incidentally, Lakshman had come out of jail on bail on February 22. He had been arrested in December last year in yet another case of land grabbing.
