Bengaluru: A 48-year-old security guard was bludgeoned to death by unidentified miscreants at Bommanahalli crematorium.
The incident took place early Thursday and came to light on Saturday when the deceased Manjunath's body was recovered.
A native of Hassan, Manjunath had shifted to Bengaluru a few years ago and was living in a rented house in Bommanahalli area along with his wife and two children.
Manjunath did odd jobs, including driving, and got addicted to alcohol after he lost his wife three years ago. He began staying alone and his children started living with relatives. According to police, Manjunath on Wednesday night went to a bar in Bommanahalli. After he got drunk some unidentified men took him to a crematorium nearby and assaulted him. They later threw a rock on his head, which killed him.
The incident came to light after a passerby spotted the body and informed the police. HSR Layout police rushed to the spot and conducted a spot mahazar. The police suspect the killers may have got drunk along with Manjunath and picked up a fight. They may have killed him in a fit of rage. The police have obtained CCTV footage from the cameras installed nearby to identify the killers.
