Chennai: DVAC raids KK Nagar transport office, Rs 3.4 lakh seized
Chennai: Officials of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption (DVAC) on Thursday night conducted a surprise raid at KK Nagar Regional Transport Office resulting in a seizure of unaccounted cash worth about Rs 3.4 lakh.
DVAC officials said that the raid was conducted after their office received several complaints about bribery in K K Nagar RTO. A team of DVAC personnel from the Chennai unit descended on the premises on Thursday evening and searches happened until 10 pm, sources said. No person has been arrested as yet, but cash was seized from the office.
"We will be conducting investigations with the staff there in some time. We conducted surprise raids as we learnt that the bribe amounts were not collected by the staff, but by agents who collect and pass on the amount later," an official said.
Three months ago, DVAC conducted a statewide raid at RTO's and seized unaccounted cash worth Rs.15 lakh and documents in a single day.
