Kochi: Government apathy towards the death of two minor Dalit girls in Walayar has not just limited to the callous way the police went about investigating the cases. It has also reflected in the failure of the senior leaders of the ruling dispensation from the district in visiting the disaster-struck family thought it has been five days on Thursday since the second of the two siblings died. Minister for welfare of SCs, STs and backward classes A.K. Balan who was elected from Palakkad district has not visited the family yet; so is the case with senior CPM leader and Malampuzha MLA V.S. Achuthanandan who represents Walayar in the Assembly.
It is understood that no senior official from any of the government departments has also found it necessary to visit the family. While Mr Achuthanandan is scheduled to visit Walayar on Friday, there has been no confirmation on Mr Balan’s visit. Sources close to the two leaders said they were unable to make it to Walayar due to the on-going Assembly session. District collector P. Marykutty, who is yet to visit the place, said that the parents of the 13-year old child who was found dead on January 13 had not raised the allegations they have raised now. “The police also did not get information to this effect during the initial stage of the investigation,” she said.
