Odisha: Mob cuts tribal girl's hair on mobile theft charge
Bhubaneswar: While the world was celebrating International Women’s Day on Wednesday with gaiety, a 19-year-old tribal girl in Odisha’s Bolangir district was busy in filing a police complaint accusing a group of local people of inhumanly torturing her on alleged theft of a mobile phone costing as less as Rs 3,000, reports said on Thursday.
The victim hailing from Pardihapali under Bolangir Sadar police station limits said a group of local people surrounded her while she was going to attend her tailoring classes in Bolangir town and beat her up.
Not contended with this much, they cut her long hair to make sure that she looked ugly.
“Although I told them that their doubt on me was unfounded, they did not stop beating me. They cut my hair off to put pressure on me to admit in public that I was the culprit. Despite all my pleadings, they also humiliated me in many other ways,” the victim said in her complaint.
“On March 6 in the afternoon, when I was on my way to attend tailoring classes, Byasa Pradhan, some his family members and a few other local people nabbed me, accusing me of stealing a mobile phone. They beat me up severely, cut off my hair and stained my face black,” the girl alleged in a complaint to the police. A case was booked and the police started investigation into the matter.
