Thrissur: A twenty-year-old woman in Kanjikode who died on Monday after consuming rat poison had been found to be sexually abused in the post mortem report. The girl is a resident of Shivaji Nagar in Kanjikode in Walayar police station limit. Neighbour of the girl, Ratheesh, who works as a temporary staff at Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) in the Kanjikode Industrial Zone was arrested by the police in connection with the incident and he was slapped with charges of rape.
The woman, who works in a bottle manufacturing unit in the Industrial Area, had consumed poison on March 1, after Ratheesh allegedly tried to molest her by entering her house at around midnight. She was admitted to Palakkad District Hospital and Walayar Police had registered cases against both the relatives of Ratheesh and the woman for attacking each other’s houses.
She was discharged on March 4, and died at her house on March 6 after her health condition worsened suddenly, police said. The relatives of the woman said that the hospital authorities did not provide her proper treatment and she was discharged in haste. “Her postmortem report has hinted at possibilities of her being sexually abused,” DySP G Poonguzhali said.
