Hyderabad: Two people carrying fake Indian currency notes were caught by the district police on Wednesday. The duo confessed that they went to Malda some days ago, collected the notes from the gangs there and agreed to work for them. The duo were identified as Mudavath Ravinder, 29, and Meghavath Prakash, 27, both from from Rallgudupally village in Ranga Reddy district.

Ranga Reddy SP Rema Rajeswari said the police stopped the duo at Burugupally Crossroads in Mominpet while they were moving on a bike. “When our team checked their plastic bags it found fake currency worth '2.6 lakh,” she said.

“Ravinder said that he and his friend had gone to Malda four days back and had met a member of a cross-border fake currency racket. They took the notes from him,” the SP said. Ravinder smuggled the currency to the city by train. They were taking the currency on their bike from Secunderabad to their village.
“They were planning to circulate the currency among gullible villagers,” said Rema Rajeswari.

Police found that one of the accused, Meghavath Prakash, had circulated fake currency in Sadasivpet in Medak district. He was arrested in 2014.
Ranga Reddy police booked a case against them and produced them before court for legal proceedings.
