The police picked up Venkatesh and Dileep who during a detailed questioning confessed to the crime.

BENGALURU: The Seshadripuram police have arrested a gang of six people, including two history sheeters who had robbed Rs 14 lakh from a security guard working at a Pizza Hut outlet in Seshadripuram on February 22.

The arrested are Puroshottam alias Billal, 22, Venkatesh alias Slum Venkatesh, 24, Manjunath, 24, Uday Kumar, 24, Babu, 23, and Dileep, 26. While Purushottam has over 20 cases of murder and attempt to murder cases against him, Venkatesh, a rowdy, has a murder case registered in Tamil Nadu and eight other cases of attempt to murder at Mahalakshmi Layout police station.

The police, who suspected the involvement of insiders, kept a close watch on the employees before zeroing in on Venkatesh and Dileep based on their call record details. The duo knew that the daily collections at the outlet used to be deposited to the bank by a security guard hired by the company.

They hatched a plot to rob the cash to become rich overnight. They discussed the plan with their associates Purushotham, Uday, Manjunath and Babu, and kept tabs on Kiran Raj, the security guard, while he was on his way to the bank with the cash.

As per the plan, the gang intercepted Kiran near the Seshadripuram petrol pump station, threatened him at knifepoint and made away with the cash bag containing Rs 14 lakh. The accused later distributed the money among themselves. The Seshadripuram police suspected an insiders’ job as the gang was given exact details of Kiran’s movements. They stated monitoring the movements of the employees and also their call detail records.

The police found that at the time of the crime, Venkatesh and Dileep kept in touch with their associates, whose mobile phones were found active at the tower locations from the scene of crime. The police picked up Venkatesh and Dileep who during a detailed questioning confessed to the crime. The police have recovered Rs 7.03 lakh cash from the accused along with two motorcycles and a dagger which were used in the crime.
