Mangaluru police arrest two in connection with fake marks card racket

The accused had created marks cards of about 11 Universities and Institutions.

MANGALURU: The city police have arrested two people in connection with fake marks card racket in Mangaluru. The two arrested have been identified as Askan Shekh (22) and Gautham R (32), both residents of Mangaluru who allegedly created fake marks cards of various universities.

Mangaluru City Police Chief Chandra Sekhar M told reporters that based on credible information, CCB police, headed by Inspector Valentine D’Souza, arrested the two.

“CCB Inspector who received information about fake certificate racket at Mangalore Institute of Management and Engineering raided Eduexcel Consultancy and arrested Askan and Gautham,” Chandra Sekhar said. The accused had created marks cards of about 11 Universities and Institutions, he added.

Those who wanted to prove education qualification, especially while going abroad, had reportedly contacted the accused for fake marks card. “The accused used to create fake marks card in a week to those who approached them. They created marks card of any year and of any institution. They used to charge Rs 10,000 for fake SSLC and PUC marks card and Rs 35,000 for fake Degree and Diploma certificate. For MBA they used to charge Rs 45,000 per certificate,” he said.

Police investigation has revealed that they had manufactured over 150 such fake certificates. Askan had started Mangalore Institute of Management and Engineering in June 2015. But interestingly the accused had supplied marks cards of the same institution dated 2010!

The Commissioner said that they are investigating whether anyone else was involved in this racket. Preliminary investigation had revealed that the associates of the accused were there in cities like Bengaluru and Delhi.
