Hyderabad: SI caught taking bribe, inspector flees
Hyderabad: A Jubilee Hills sub-inspector was caught red-handed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau while accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 and two bottles of liquor, while inspector Balwantaiah, who is said to be involved, went absconding.
The ACB is searching for the inspector while sub-inspector P. Sudheer Reddy has been arrested.
According to the ACB officials, it all began with one M. Vamsi Krishna being booked by the Jubilee Hills police on December 29. He was released on December 31, on police station bail.
“Balwantaiah, inspector and station house officer of Jubilee Hills police station demanded a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from Vamsi Krishna through sub-inspector P. Sudheer Reddy, for doing the official favour for releasing the accused on station bail, and also to delete Section 406 of IPC (criminal breach of trust) against Vamsi Krishna and refer the case for Lok Adalat,” the ACB said.
On the request of Vamsi, the bribe amount was settled at Rs 50,000 and two bottles of VAT 69 by the inspector. On Thursday, the ACB sleuths caught Sudheer Reddy in the bylanes of Road No 10, Jubilee Hills.
The ACB said that soon after the SI was caught, the inspector who was on duty went absconding and efforts are on to nab him. A case has been booked against him for the investigation.
