Hyderabad: Hookah centre raided, 3 held

The raids were conducted based on credible information and the accused were found serving hookah.

Hyderabad: Sleuths from the commissioner’s task force conducted a surprise check on a hookah centre, Hyderabad Times Café, in Jubilee Hills and apprehended three men and seized 33 hookah pots, 17 flavours, 40 pipes and six walkie-talkies. The accused were identified as Mohamed Zeeshan Ahmed, 31, owner, D. Mahendar, 29, manager, and Syed Moinuddin, a worker.

The raids were conducted based on credible information and the accused were found serving hookah by violating the COTP Act and the Hyderabad CP Act. They are not following the COTP Act. The smoking area is more than 30 per cent of the total floor area and the smoking area is not designated separately. The smoking area not surrounded by full height walls on four sides and does not have air flow system and food and beverages are served in the smoking area,” said P. Radha Krishna Rao, DCP, commissioner’s task force.
