2 government officials land in ACB net in North Andhra
Visakhapatnam: Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials from North Andhra region arrested two officials on Tuesday for demanding and accepting bribes for doing officials favours. In the first case, the ACB officials arrested A.V. Prasa-da Rao, office superintendent from the District Education Officer (DEO), Srikaku-lam, who was demanding and accepted a kickback of Rs 20,000 from a government teacher (secondary grade) K. Tammayya of MPUP school, Changudi Village, Pathapa-tnam mandal of Srikakulam district, for processing and forwarding the Service Regularisation File of Tammayya to the DEO.
DSP of ACB, Srikaulam, K. Rajendra said that Tammayya was previously suspended from the duties on the gr-ounds of being an accused in a criminal case in 2002 while the court struck off the case in 2010. As he was given the clean chit from the court, he appealed to the ed-ucation department officials to regularise his service.
Responding to the appeal, the government sent a remark memo to the DEO office in the August-2016. Taking advantage from this, the DEO office superintendent demanded a bribe to move the file to the higher-ups. Prasada Rao was caught while he was taking the tainted amount from the complainant in his office. In another instance of corruption, the ACB-Vizianagaram district officials arrested the village revenue officer (VRO) from Neelak-anta Rajapuram, Arasada Jagannadham for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from one complainant to process the file submitted for succession mutation and issuing passbook.
