Chennai: Kidnapped bank manager rescued
Chennai: A manager with a private bank was kidnapped by a four-member gang outside his branch in Triplicane over an alleged financial deal on Thursday evening. Police arrested two persons on charges of kidnap and rescued the 36-year-old bank manager.
This is the third instance of kidnap in the city in the last one week. Police sources said that S. Muruganandam, manager of IndusInd bank was standing outside his branch when he was approached by a gang. Police identified the quartet as Mohammed Kasim (33), Sherif, Dilli Babu and Askar. As they were talking, an autorickshaw pulled up and the manager was bundled up into the vehicle. However, hearing the man’s cries, public rushed to his aid and alerted the police. With the help of public, a police team intercepted the auto and managed to rescue the bank manager. Two of the suspects were detained by the police.
Police investigations revealed that a businessman from Triplicane, Mohammed, had approached the bank manager to facilitate an illegal transaction worth Rs 6 crore, for which the manager had allegedly demanded a commission of Rs 65 lakh. While the commission amount was allegedly paid, the manager failed to fulfil his end of the deal following which the businessman sought the help of a rowdy, Kutty of Mamallapuram, police sources said.
Kutty’s men plotted the kidnap when they were caught. Police are enquiring Mohammed and Sheriff while hunt is on for Dilli babu and Askar. Further investigations are on with the bank manager about the commission amount. On December 6, five persons were arrested for kidnapping a short film maker from Ambattur for a sour financial deal and a day earlier, three were arrested for kidnapping a businessman for the same reason in MKB Nagar.
